10 Things to Cure the Winter Blues

I don't know about anyone else, but I find the winter to be the longest season of the year. I realize that I live in Canada and I should be used to it, but it doesn't mean I always have to like it. I have put together a list of the favorite things that I like to do when I am hit with the winter blues. I hope you find these helpful.

1) Wear cozy clothes. I am confident that Stacey and Clinton (from "What Not To Wear") would be horrified, but I love my polar fleece. When it is really cold I love to put on my polar fleece pj pants and a big fleece sweater and curl up on the couch.

2) Wear Bright colours. I believe that black can be slimming, Stacker 3 but too much of it makes winter seem depressing. Sometimes just wearing a bright top of scarf lifts my mood.

3) Sip a Hot drink. This is a must. I don't mind hot chocolate, but my first choice is either a cup of chai tea or a hot cup of coffee. If you really want a lift, try a fancy cappuccino with whipped cream or syrup...yummm!

4) Eat Chocolate. I find that chocolate is good for curing almost anything, and a dreary winter's day is no exception. My favorite is the "Oat-Fudge Bar" at Starbucks.

5) Soak in a Bubble bath. This is usually a rarity for me, simply because I'm a busy mom. However, when I do take a bubble bath it is heaven on earth. I love to close the shower curtain and the bathroom door to keep in the heat. I also have been known to bring in a book and a cup of coffee.

6) Listen to Music. I love to listen to classical music on a cold winter's day, but I also enjoy some rock or metal too. If it's during the day, something that will get me moving. At night, it's classical all the way.

7) Read a Book. Okay, I am usually too busy to read an actual book, however I love reading trashy magazines. It helps me to feel relaxed and provides some great entertainment.

8) Write in a Journal. I find that when the day is exceptionally bleak or I feel really blue it helps to write in a journal. Long winter's days have inspired some of my best writing and poems.

9) Watch an Old Movie. Sometimes the very thing to lift my spirits is to watch a movie. I find that anything with Marilyn Monroe seems to do the trick.

10) Snuggles and cuddles. The best part of being a mom is that I can lots of snuggles and cuddles from my kids. Sometimes that's all that I need.
